The Holidays are right around the corner. As we start to plan the Thanksgiving and Christmas menus, choose what lucky family member's home will host the festivities, and get ready to polish the good silver...we also must remember a few cardinal rules while we enjoy the 3 Fs:
Fun Family Food 5. No fruit Cake! Im not even sure why they still make these things, there are only about 5 people in the whole universe who eats them. Save the fruit cake and opt to bring another dessert over for your holiday meal. 4. Do not bring a date to the family dinner unless the relationship is serious Honestly, who wants to spend the rest of the year listening to grandma ask about your date unless he or she will be around for a long time. 3.If you are not grandma or the person designated to make the potato salad or dressing don't risk it! Nobody likes that awkward moment when someone has to ask, "Who made the dressing?" Furthermore, who has the time to try and out do grandma's homemade cornbread dressing just for bragging rights? It can be hit or miss, but it isn't worth the risk. 2. Do not let anybody who is on a first name basis with the liquor store clerk or owner make the holiday punch. If you know Aunt Tammy owns a personal flask don't let her make the punch unless it's for those who aren't light weights. Although seeing Grandma or your super religious cousin intoxicated maybe comical and quite entertaining; nothing is funny about having a hangover the next morning and missing Black Friday or the day after Christmas sales. 1.Do not get "The Itis" unless you are at close family member or friend's home. The holiday season is a time of year when we sometimes invite friends who may not have family over, or you may want to try something new and experience a new holiday tradition. After a large meal you may feel full and drowsy. This state of euphoric sleepiness has been called, "The Itis" by the majority of African Americans. This popular phrase was created because of the massive amount of well prepared soul food found in Black homes across America. Getting "The Itis" is okay if you are at home or at grandma's house, but if you are invited to someone's house the most embarrassing thing you can do is get caught snoring on someone's couch. If you feel "The Itis" excuse yourself and go home. Enjoy your time with your loved ones. XOXO, Krystale Jane'l
